The African Liberty Writing Fellowship program offers a unique opportunity for young Africans interested in pursuing careers in academia, media, public policy, or any field requiring critical and analytical writing skills. This year-long program begins with a mandatory five-week online course for accepted applicants, focusing on opinion article writing. The top candidates from this training will be admitted as African Liberty Writing Fellows.
The five-week training will run from 23rd May to 20th June 2023, followed by the writing fellowship from 11th July 2023 to 11th July 2024. Past fellows have been featured in leading African and non-African media outlets, as showcased on the program’s Media Hits page.
Benefits of the African Liberty Writing Fellowship include access to expert instructors, a 12-month writing fellowship, publication opportunities in top African newspapers, a monthly stipend for top contributors, and potential TV and radio features.
Eligibility criteria require applicants to be enrolled in or have graduated from an African institution of higher learning or be an African pursuing higher education outside the continent.
Interested candidates can apply for the African Liberty Writing Fellowship by visiting the application page and completing the form. The deadline for submissions is 30th April 2023, and late applications will not be considered.
